[character]: Road Camelot
[character history / background]: Some very basic info here.
Road is one of the Noah Clan, humans with superhuman capabilities, who claim to be direct descendants of Noah and supporters of the Millenium Earl. In spite of looking like the youngest of the clan, she’s the oldest, as her Noah was the first to awaken.
Road first meets the Exorcists in Rewinding Town, where they are trying to help Miranda gain control of her Innocence. She uses the Akuma to distract Allen and Lenalee so that she can kidnap Miranda, and uses Miranda’s blood to write taunts on her wall, “Fuck you, Exorcists”. When Allen is knocked out by the Akuma, he awakens in one of Road’s constructed realities, to find Lenalee comatose and dressed as a doll, Miranda nailed to her clock through her hands, and his own cursed arm nailed to the wall.
Allen can’t believe that a human is helping the Millenium Earl, but Road says that humans make weapons to kill other humans, so why shouldn’t a human be using Akuma? She tells him that she’s of the Noah clan, the ‘true apostles’ chosen by God, given the Akuma to wipe out all the weak humans in the world, i.e. anyone who’s not a Noah.
When Allen yells that that’s not God, but the Devil, she just calmly answers that either way, it’s all the same to her.
Even though Allen barely manages to escape his first encounter with her, he runs into her again on Noah’s Ark, where she and Tyki play a game with the Exorcists, telling them that if they reach Road’s door at the top of the building in time, they’ll be able to escape before the Ark collapses into nothing.
When Allen, Lenalee and Rabi fight their way to the last room, Road and Tyki are ready and waiting, and Road surprises everyone by greeting Allen with a not-very-welcome kiss. While Tyki takes on Allen, Road traps Rabi inside a ‘dream’. After Allen exorcises the Noah from Tyki, Road becomes very very upset, quite calmly for her, which only makes her more deadly. She says that one of Allen’s friends will be punished for what Allen did to Tyki, and sets out to destroy Rabi’s ‘heart’, which is still trapped inside the dream she placed him in.
Rabi, however, manages to fight Road’s illusions and at the last minutes realizes who she is hiding as within his dream. He stabs her ‘true self’ and she slowly disintegrates and dies.
Shortly afterwards, we see her with Lulubell, talking to the Earl. Permanent death isn’t all that permanent when it comes to Road.
Later on, Road attends a party with Cyril and together they watch Tyki charm the nobles attending the ball. Later still, the Earl pays a visit to her ‘human’ family. Tyki’s brother Cyril and his invalid wife are her adoptive parents (Tyki implies that the only reason Cyril got married is because he wanted to adopt Road since he finds her so cute). The Earl, Cyril, Tyki and Road meet to further the Earl’s plot for the world, and Road appears to be the only one of her siblings who’s privy to the story of the fourteenth Noah, who had tried to kill the Millenium Earl.
[character abilities]:
Like the other Noah, Road can sense Innocence and is capable of destroying it. She can regenerate almost immediately from severe wounds, and either doesn’t feel pain or pays no attention to it, while also being very strong. If any of the other Noah are killed, the Noah inside her cries in spite of herself, and even though her true self is killed by Rabi, she still returns from it.
Being the Noah of Dreams, Road’s unique ability is to create her own dimensions and realities, and uses them to mess with people’s heads. Lero in fact once states that out of all the Noah, Road’s power scares him the most.
As the First Child, Road is also the only Noah with the ability to program Noah’s Ark. She’s also the only one who’s able to travel through dimensions without using the Ark.
[character personality]:
Road hates humans, considering them weak and treating them as playthings, and she hates Exorcists even more. However she is inexplicably fond of Allen, though most of her affection shows itself in ways of hurting him or creating twisted ‘games’ to play with him.
She also considers Akuma as nothing more than tools and enjoys bullying them, even if they are evolved enough to be self aware (or maybe especially if they are evolved enough to be self aware) – in fact once she casually orders an Akuma to self destruct, not caring about the loss of a ‘tool’ and wanting to cause Allen grief, because, as she informs him, an Akuma destroyed without Innocence will also destroy the soul trapped inside. Road knows Allen considers himself duty bound to save Akuma, and enjoys that he’s forced to watch the Akuma’s trapped soul be permanently lost.
Road is, in other words, an extremely sadistic little girl rolled up in a cute, demanding package. She doesn’t care if the pain she’s causing is mental or physical – with her, there’s a good chance of it being both at once. She’s capable of hugging Allen one moment and stabbing his eye out with a candle the next. To her, it’s all in good fun.
On the other hand, she cares about her family. She squabbles with the twins Devit and Jasdero, gives candy to Skin, and is closest to Tyki, treating him like an older brother even if he’s supposed to be her ‘uncle’. She’s always insisting that he entertain her and give in to her whims (not to mention trying to make him do all her homework). In spite of being the oldest, she’s very much treated like the spoiled youngest child of the family. She acts rather angry and very upset when Allen manages to defeat Tyki in the Ark, and shows concern for Tyki later on when she accidentally hurts an old wound as she playfully(for her) bangs her fists against his chest.
She’s also very fond of the Millenium Earl, the ‘Duke’ as the Noah call him, and the feeling seems to be mutual. She jumps on his back in greeting, steals his umbrella away to use as a flying broomstick, gets him to call the other family members to a meeting just to help with her homework, and the Earl quite cheerfully puts up with it all.
She almost always does exactly what she likes, and is never in fear of punishment or reprisal; even when Lero says the Earl will punish her for ‘ruining his scenario’ all she answers is that the Earl would never do anything like that to her.
Even when she’s being ‘normal’, she still acts like a spoiled brat, clamouring for attention that she usually receives. She is, presumably, capable of behaving herself for a stretch, since she does attend school and is once seen attending a society ball with Tyki and Cyril.
[point in timeline you're picking your character from]:
After chapter 158 of the manga.
[journal post]:
Father~! Are we playing a game of hide and seek? You promised you’d take me to school today! I don’t want the teachers to think I’m skiving offunless I’m doing it on purpose.
Where is everyone? This isn’t any fun!
It’s the first time my door didn’t take me exactly where I wanted to go…Tyki had better come find me really soon or I’ll be so mad at him!
Hee~, I hope he brings Lero ♥ But that stupid umbrella never likes leaving the Duke…
Will someone come and help a lost little girl? ♥
[third person / log sample]:
There was a very very thin line between not-bored and bored, and Road was close to crossing it. If something interesting didn’t happen soon, she’d go right over the border into bored territory, and then horribly nasty things would happen.
Which was fine with her. She liked nasty things.
Sometimes people referred to her as ‘nasty’, which wasn’t at all fair – honestly, hadn’t anyone ever met the twins? But Road liked to think she was able to rise above what people said. She was even nice enough to do as the Earl suggested and throw a party for anyone who’d formed the wrong opinion of her. People always loved her parties.
They loved them so much that they never left.
Currently, though, she really didn’t have anything to do. Tyki was close to being completely healed, so she couldn’t play nurse anymore and get to see the alarmed look on his face every time she turned up in his sick room, even if she suspected the look was more for her amusement than because he was afraid of anything she might try to do to ‘help’ him. No Noah ever felt afraid, especially not because of a family member.
And Road wondered if maybe, just maybe, she should have felt that oh so foreign emotion of fear back in the Ark, not of him, but for him. The complete confidence they all had in each other…if she’d stepped in instead of letting him get on with it on his own, would he have been less hurt? Would it matter?
She wasn’t really given to second guessing though (a Noah didn’t make mistakes), and the thought escaped her mind as light as a butterfly, as light as the tease that the Duke had made for Tyki to play with.
The Duke. The corners of her mouth pulled up impossibly high, carving into her cheeks, the grin distorting her face as her skin turned darker.
The Duke would find something for her to do. She’d skip school again – she hated school, all those annoying kids who didn’t like her games and who she wasn’t allowed to play with, not properly play with, because her family had to maintain their masks for now – and she’d go to visit her beloved Duke. There was that accursed fourteenth to deal with, which also meant seeing Allen again. Road treasured the bittersweet memory of just barely restraining herself from killing her precious Allen as she cradled Tyki’s broken form. Silly Allen. Didn’t he know she was the one who was supposed to be hurting him, not the other way around?
Her door materialized in front of her and she stepped through into the darkness beyond the doorway, delicately licking at a lollipop all the while as she headed to whichever corner of the earth the Duke was in. In the worst case scenario, she could always just ‘borrow’ Lero and head off for a jaunt of her own again.
The world was her playground.
Soon, so very soon, it would truly be hers. (Or the Duke’s, but Road didn’t dwell on trifles like that, because what was his was theirs.)
Such a pity that only she and her family would get to see it.
Such a good thing there was no room in the heart of a Noah for pity.
